Nate Cozens (he/him) is a Filipino-American director and writer. His full-length play Debut: Coming of Age in Filipino America recently had workshop readings in Chicago with CIRCA Pintig and in New York City with Undiscovered Countries.
Growing up, Nate watched his mom fill balikbayan boxes, which are large cardboard boxes packed with American snacks, canned goods, and toiletries, to send to family in the Philippines. These boxes symbolized love and connection across oceans. Nate sees himself as a vessel, much like a balikbayan box, carrying stories rooted in his queer, Filipino-American experience, and delivering them through theater with heart and humor.
Other projects include directing Banana at The Provincetown Theater, I Like It Rough, a short play in National Queer Theatre's Kinky Pint-Sized Plays, producing a one-woman song cycle titled From A Distance at the New York International Fringe Festival, and directing and co-producing the NYC premiere of Poor Boys' Chorus at the Broadway Bound Theatre Festival. He holds a BA in Theatre and Dance from The University of Texas at Austin.
Nate is also an experienced teaching artist and has created a variety of learning experiences for both students and teachers with Roundabout Theatre Company in NYC and ZACH Theatre in Austin, TX.
